Elon Musk is a master of creating mystery and ensuring that is name stays on the front pages of the media. On 22nd October he set Twitter buzzing with a very brief tweet saying, “Wanna buy some Bitcoin?” and featuring an anime image. This came shortly after his “I love anime” tweet. Therefore we can assume there is a connection in Muck’s world between BTC and anime images.
Cryptocurrency Girls created the image Musk used, and they are famous for turnings a range of cryptocurrencies into anime characters. Twitter reacted to the Bitcoin element by locking Musk out of his account, because it believed the account had been hacked. However, it hadn’t, As Musk let his followers know once he’d got back into his account.
Twitter wasn’t wrong to take this action, because scammers have impersonated Musk’s personal account a number of times, mostly to try and sell fake crypto, which is why his Bitcoin message alerted Twitter staff.
Since his tweet has been verified, famous figures in the crypto community have been engaging with it. For example, Zhao Changpeng — founder of Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, tweeted: “Lol, it’s spreading. I will buy a Tesla if you accept crypto.”
Dovey Wan, the founder of Primitive Ventures, tweeted, “I’m taking off Elon from my list of ‘most bannable twitter accounts.”
Is there anything behind Musk’s tweet? Coindesk seems to think it is just a case of the entrepreneur having a bit of fun with the crypto community, and they are probably right.
What would your reply be to Elon Musk’s tweet? And why do you think he posted it?
