BlockShow Europe 2018, currently being held in Berlin on 28th/29th May, polled worldwide supporters, giving them the opportunity to vote for the women and companies they believe are making the biggest impact on the European blockchain sphere. Over 2000 votes were cast for a shortlist with 15 nominees in each category.

The short list for EU-registered blockchain companies was selected based on market capitalisation, expert reviews and social media activity. However, voters were also able to nominate EU-based companies as well.

The most influential woman

The winning vote for the most influential woman in European blockchain went to Dr Quy Vo-Reinhard, Chief Data Officer and co-founders of the HIT Foundation. The Health Information Traceability (HIT) Foundation is a decentralised marketplace that allows individuals to digitise and monetise their health data, as well as to trace its usage. In her acceptance speech she said: “I believe the blockchain can bring a bright future to the global community. I was born in a country where, 40 years ago, a majority of people believed women belonged in the kitchen. I feel that I’ve come a long way: being here, speaking, and receiving an award for what I’m doing for women in tech and at the HIT Foundation is amazing. I suggest next year there should be a category for men, too — we all work really hard in this industry. It has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with capability and performance.”

Dr Vo-Reinhard is a keen advocate of the blockchain for humanitarian uses and she is peaking on the topic today in Berlin.

Bitfury won the vote for being the “game-changing” European company. It provides blockchain infrastructure and is one of the biggest movers in the worldwide crypto ecosystem. Valery Vavilov, Bitfury’s CEO said: “Bitfury is grateful for this show of support. We work hard every day to develop and advance blockchain solutions for governments, businesses and institutions that make life better for people — in Europe and around the world. We are more committed than ever to bringing this game-changing technology to life.”
